Managing projects successfully requires ideas and information that go beyond standard project management. By weaving together theory and practice, this course presents an understandable, integrated view of the many concepts skills, tools, and techniques involved in project management. The course provides up-to-date information on how good project management and effective use of software can help you manage projects of any size.

You will learn a streamlined approach to project management supported by the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMI’s PMBOK® Guide). The course provides in-depth knowledge that will prepare you for PMP® certification.

Intended for students and professionals, you’ll develop a profound understanding of project management, diving deep into the strengths and weaknesses of differing methodologies, tool, and techniques, including Waterfall, Agile, Scrum, Earned Value Management, Burndown measurement, traditional metrics, and all nine PMI project management knowledge areas, and all five process groups. Effective risk management and prevention (often only given a cursory glance by other courses and text) is examined in depth: You’ll learn techniques that put real risk management practices to work, and you’ll learn how to spot and correct problems with quality assurance, planning, requirements management, estimation, and other critical project processes.

This course is unique in treating project management holistically, rather than as a collection of separate techniques. It thus explains the entire project management process in great detail, demonstrating techniques ranging from the simplest of charts to sophisticated management tools. Many key indicators of successful projects, such as stakeholders’ perceptions, the organization and management of business change projects, people’s roles in project management, and the wider business contexts in which project management are adopted are considered.

Making Distance Learning More Effective

When we set out to develop our distance learning programs we wanted to make sure the student experience rivaled in-classroom training. Most distance learning programs don’t support group exercises, one on one time with your instructor, and open discussion periods — we wanted to be different. That’s why we have put so much time into developing our coursework and the unique tools that make it work. I’m confident you’ll agree that our programs are in many ways more effective than in-classroom sessions.Zacharias J. Beckman, President & CEO

The Advantages of Distance Learning

Every Hyrax University course strives to deliver training that is better than courses available through in-classroom programs. Each course follows a unique format that takes advantage of the strengths of distance learning.

  1. Our courses combine pre-recorded video presentations from instructors with live WebEx sessions that involve the entire class. Students have regular sessions during which questions can be raised and group discussions can be explored.
  2. Self-directed training tools are provided with your course. Materials include presentations, available in both audio and visual formats; accompanying materials made available for download and study; self-direct web-based research; and offline study.
  3. Training activities are scheduled over time, at about one or two hours a day. This means students can take what they’ve learned and apply it on a daily basis, resulting in vastly increased knowledge retention.
  4. Course presentations are highly interactive, including dynamic exercises, workshop activities, and chapter quizzes.
  5. Unlike a traditional classroom session, your distance learning course allows you to review and repeat lectures and presentations at your own pace.
  6. Students can schedule one-on-one time with their instructor, using WebEx conferencing, during regular office hours.
  7. Training is directed at the pace most suitable to your schedule. While courses do schedule regular, group activities and presentations, you can also move at your own pace.
  8. Each course includes an appropriate student packet, usually consisting of a course textbook and often including additional materials (see your course syllabus for details). All materials will be shipped to you before the start of your class.

All courses are available for on-site presentation to your team. Courses are always tailored to your team’s needs to maximize effectiveness. Call us at 805-669-8493 to schedule!
